Our history
The history of the first marketplace specializing in vision care—designed by and for professionals—began with Antonio Romero, who founded a laboratory and the Santa Lucía optical store in the city of Rosario, Santa Fe Province, Argentina, in 1934.
Success came quickly. After partnering with and acquiring the representation of Chance Pilkington in Argentina, Antonio and his partners decided to expand the business’s horizons and open the TUMO (Talleres Ultramodernos Ópticos) laboratory in the city of Buenos Aires.
Romero’s legacy continued through his sons, Carlos and his brother, who continue to provide laboratory services for opticians to this day.
But it was not until 1995 that Kaly Romero, Carlos’ son, began his career in the visual health industry, venturing into the marketing of supplies and equipment for laboratories, as well as designer frames and sunglasses and custom brands.
The third generation also managed to secure its first representation and distribution contract for Argentina with the renowned company RODENSTOCK.
At the time, Kaly already had 14 salespeople throughout Argentina and branches in two of Argentina’s major cities, Córdoba and Mar del Plata. This growth allowed it to begin exporting to neighboring countries such as Chile, Paraguay, and Brazil.
However, the goal was much more ambitious. Kaly sought to expand the business to new horizons and consolidate a leading brand in the field of visual health, characterized by the quality and variety of solutions for professionals in the field.
Then, in 2000, Kaly decided to open a new company in the United States: RG Optics International.
After 22 years in business, and with the fourth generation joining the family business, RG Optics Internacional evolved into Óptica Al Mayor, the first visual health marketplace for all of Latin America.
